"Politicians bathing in their greed
No idea on how to be all they can be...
It's war for money...
drink from the golden cup...
Play your war games with other people's lives
It should be you on the front-line"
When i first read this topic I instantly thought of one song "No one gets left behind" by five finger death punch. This song was made to criticize the people sending others to fight the war for them as they sit back home relatively safe. As they fight they give their lives, the song continues to talk about if they have any honor or if they even know why they are being sent over, how they can just sit comfortably as others die. Basicly this song is pretty much as anti-war as it gets.

Media Coverage
Media back during the Vietnam times was relatively more bias then the media of today. Vietnam was more "in-your-face" with the bad that was going on during the war, such as killing, death, and mutilation. Its sad to think that these people were hated just by the fact that was the way they were represented. Whereas today media functions more like "whatever works in their favor". Politics and whatnot. The seem more interested on putting out their opinions and swaying the populous with whatever it is they want them to think. Unlike Vietnam which only showed the death, not to sway someone politically, but because it makes a good story.

Got an idea, going to send U-2 plane over Cuba to see what all the fuss is about or if there even is any.

The U-2 plane was delayed launch until today because of the weather, sent it out and apparently the pictures it provided was hard proof of the missiles. Not a good sign.

Sent another U-2 out for another check, results are worse then i feared. Intermediate range SS-5 nuclear missiles were found. Even a worse sign then yesterday.

Thought about doing an air-strike today to solve the problem but General Maxwell Taylor said that an air strike could not guarantee to destroy all Soviet missiles in Cuba. Well back to the drawing board.

meritocracy
Meritocracy - Noun, plural, meaning - an elite group of people whose progress is based on ability and talent rather than on class privilage or wealth. However is this true? After watching "a classroom divided" I think no. The most shocking report from this film was the fact that the students "when they were the lesser people" had worse scores then when they thought they were superior, so it's sort of based on whats going on in the head of people at the time, not basic skills or abilities. For instance if people keep telling you you're dumb eventually you might come to the conclusion you are confusing your abilities and talents to the point were it becomes harder when in reality you are way more qualified for the task then you think you are. It seems more of a mind game then a part of just ability and talent, speaking of privilege, back in the day, the rich or wealthy were the only ones allowed to go to school or get a good education not all of them were purely working on ability but by social luck in of a since that they were born in to a family with lots of money, so to some all of this up in a nice coherent way, i do not believe in "meritocracy" in the least
Acomplishing Civil rights
Who's methodology was more effective during the civil rights, Malcolm X or Martian Luther King Jr? A very standard question considering their methods were both different. Martian Luther King, Jr. was more on to the themes of passiveness, while Malcolm X was more passive aggressive with his quote "by any means necessary" meaning he will accomplish the goal no matter what it took, even if it takes violence. As for who's was more "effective" i would probably say MLK because if say you were hit and then you bush it off like nothing and try and show just love, you will win every time, even if you are beaten and broken physically what is captured in the news, and trust me they will catch it, it will show the attackers as the "bad guys" and thus causing more support for your movement. According to Malcolm X if someone was to lay a hand on you "put him in the cemetery" which is pretty obvious in meaning. Of course Malcolm X still says obey the law, however if you are challenged fight it to death. MLK's version of doing things just seems more of a big picture sort of deal then a instant, then fall on it self, sort of way.

Topic 11 Concepts
MLK and civil disobedience - MLK being a civil rights leader lead a movement of "civil disobedience" which entitled non-violent protests such as sit-ins.
Power of the "Mob" - The more people you have for any movement the stronger that movement is.
Plessy v. Ferguson VS. Brown v. Board of Education - Basically complete opposites of each others court decision. Plessy v. Ferguson says separate but equal is OK. While Brown v. Board of Education said that, that is unconstitutional, changing every way things where.
Civil Rights Goals- to put it simple equality for all races in the united states.
Eisenhower's Role in Little Rock - Eisenhower ordered the school in little rock to be come desegregated however the mayor did not allow this and would not let the 9 kids into the school with the national guard guarding the school. Eisenhower sent 1000 paratroopers to Little Rock to make sure they went to school.
Rights of the accused - Basically if you get arrested you will always have right of someone to represent you, even if u cant afford one. Also you are informed of your rights prior to any interrogation and what you say may be held against you, allowing you the right not to talk until legal representation.
Brown vs. Board of Education - Like i said earlier, changed the way things worked in the U.S., changing how things where separated. This is also commonly known as the spark that started the Civil Rights Movement.
Chavez and the United Farm Workers - Wanted better wages and rights for those who worked in farms so he made a union to help farmers with their rights of their jobs. Also ironically Chavez was against immigration even though he was fighting for the rights of immigrants.
FHA and ADA - FHA banned the act of not allowing someone to buy or rent a house baised on race. ADA made for equal rights for those with disabilities. Such as having ramps for places to get into by stairs.
Purpose of Filibusters - The purpose of the filibusters was to simply waste time. Making sure that if they can waste enough time the other opposing party cant talk or speak at the meeting.
Sit-ins and Other Protests - Well the reasons for these were very simple, to protest the way things were working in order to obtain equal opportunity and rights. For as long as a sit-in was going on that business was not doing any, well, business.

I am one of the "little rock 9"
I wonder if I'll make it through this
I hear the hate in their voices
I see the pain on their faces
I want to be accepted

I pretend I do not hear them
I feel their deep hatred
I need to be accepted
I worry for my life
I cry myself to sleep
I am one of the "little rock 9"
I understand it will get easier
I try my best to smile
I hope for a better tomorrow

Sexism
Sexism is a very "hot" topic no matter where its spoken about in the United States. However even as taboo it is to talk about today, it was much more prevalent back in the 1950's then today. Such as this ad that I am looking at now. It is fairly understandable what the idea this ad was for was for women to sign up for the air force. However it shows the tasks of housework and others of what you would do in the air force. None of which seems more or less like "fighting", which in a way could be stating the "housework" jobs for the air force are in need of someone to do them. it even talks about what type of work appeals to you, listing some of the things that one would do in this air force as a women.

Does media influence the actions of teenagers?
This question has been sought after for a long time. Throughout all the research one conclusion is, yes, media does influence the actions of teenagers. Teenagers buy what they see on T.V., what their favorite celebrity advertise, and what is acceptable by society based on the fashion that the media has exposed on them. Teenagers mainly are the source of "we want it now" sort of buying that media for one is after. It is quiet obvious how many things on T.V. are aimed strictly for the teens of our generation. Of course these media companies know exactly what they are doing. Its the very basics of business, show the people what they want, capitalism is another term for this. These influences can be directed with the use of cigars by celebrity movie stars, the constant exposure of sex images, the excessive images of violence, and exposure to thousands upon thousands of junk food ads. With the way the media portrays teenagers it portrays them in a way so that it shows "if i do not have what everyone else has, then I am not cool, therefor I must buy more things in order to fit in". It is quiet apparent that media has an effect on the teenagers of this generation especially with all the advertisements towards them because, heck, if its not working, why should they keep using it? This follows with the saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

RARE Nazi German 1942A 5 Reichspfennig Coin WWII D-Day
This is a Coin dated back to 1942, this was common currency at the time. This is also the lowest form of currency at the time, the "least amount of money" coin. Today this coin still isn't worth "all" that much however it is still valued at 10$ if it is is very good condition. As you can see this coin compared to the other coins at the time had the Nazi symbol on it.

Interventions
Personaly I believe that countries should interven on topics such as mass genocide. Even though I am a great activist of "mind my own business" a.k.a isolationist, I still would not think that just "allowing" the killing of millions of people. What I mean is, for example, if you were to walk past some sort of person hurting another person could you just turn a cold shoulder and ignore it? I know i couldn't. Not only that, but for some thing like genocide its more then one person happoning on "bad times". After seeing things like The Rape of Nanking and seeing the publishing of the pictures and how the Japanese viewed on what they were doing its just heart breaking in a way. Not only those but the pictures ive seen from the Holocost was also infuriating that anyone could do such things without remorce. I feel as though if u are not stoping things like this you are helping the genocide along. The only way genocide is going to stop is if someone stops it. THUS intervening. That is just a personal opinon of mine.

Cinderella Man Outiline
The Movie "The Cinderella man" is primarily a underdog story featuring James J. Braddock. This film features some key elements of all story's; the fall, rising action, and the climax (in that order). The movie starts right off during the roaring twenties where everyone in America was making as much money as they could. James was at the top of his league and seemingly could not be stopped. ( http://www.jamesjbraddock.com/gallery/boxing/2/ ) but then the fall happens, otherwise known as the Great Depression. ( http://newdeal.feri.org/sevier/interviews/413s.htm ) James lost everything during that time and barely had enough money to survive. James Could not get a good fight to save his life, on the top of things he was fighting injured. Eventually the boxing commission decided to suspend James's license to box. From there it all started getting worse, but the worse of all was him not being able to provide for his family. As luck would have it the rising action happened, oh joy! James 'technically' gets another fight, however its really just a filler seeing as the guy they needed canceled. With money tight and win or lose 250 dollars it seemed like a dream come true. James got in the ring and BAM! He won! No one expected him do to anything let alone win! Eventually with the cunningness of James's manager James is able to get some more fights! With that his popularity rose again, gaining him the title "Cinderella Man" because of his astonishing fairytale comeback. With the defeat of "corn" Griffin, it put him in the contending for the heavy weight champion of the world! And then the climax, the fight between Max Baer. Which in all honesty had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. It was an amazing fight between the two fighters, and by the vote of the judges James won, and became the heavy weight champion of the world! ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RINFZ_8BhIw ) Talk about a climax huh?

Reflection
I can't speak for the rest of the world, but in my opinion learning about gangsters is very interesting. What i mean by gangsters is the old time gangsters, not the ones from today. The old gangsters were a lot "cooler" in my opinion because of they way they operated. During the prohabition era being as it may that alcohol was made illigal there stands the change of people opposed to it, starting up the bootleggers of old. Its just "neat" how they were able to opperate and how bad the security was back then! For my group during the small group presentations we were give "Baby-Face Nelson" who, indeed, was very interesting character. learning some of the things about him, you sit down and think to yourself, this guy was a BAD dude. learning some interesting facts such as when babyface was around during his sort of "harrasment times" where he was just starting up doing crimes, he would go up to vendors from stores put a gun to their mouth and then say "you need to buy insurance". If they didnt pay it, he would shoot them. If they did pay it he took out his favorite knife, which he had on him at all times, and cut their lip saying "taste that blood? there is alot more where that came from if you back out". That statement is awsome in a way yet you can see this was one bad guy. Another interesting fact was when he was 12 he shot a kid in the jaw with a pistol (on acedent supposedly). Still its plain for me to see that learing stuff like that will keep you focused on what is happoning. I very much loved this small project.

Acrostic Poem
Protection for the inocent
Rights taken away
Objections being surved
Habbits broken
Illegalizing alcohol
Building a new foundation
Idolizing law
Tandilizing thirst
Indiffrent of the world
Opressing conditions
Nothing was the same
-----------------------------------------
Ready for a new begining
Over coming the poor for middle class
Alternitive veiw on life
Rum and other alcohol outlawed
Intertainment was new
Notority was gained
Ggeting ready for tommarow
Talking in a new slang
Working hard, or hardly working
Eenterprise of buisness
New consepts for trade
Tomarow is another day
Inovative thinking
Extravigent living
Succureness of self
Rights taken away
Objections being surved
Habbits broken
Illegalizing alcohol
Building a new foundation
Idolizing law
Tandilizing thirst
Indiffrent of the world
